Have you tried teeth whitening and had disappointing results? At Stony Brook Dental Group in Stony Brook, NY, we know that teeth whitening doesn’t yield equal results in all patients. Those with darker teeth might not respond to whitening products at all. Dental veneers are a great alternative to give you a smile you want.
Veneers are thin shells that we apply to the front surfaces of your teeth. They only cover the front surface of the tooth rather than all of it. They can be used to cover and improve the appearance of cracked, crooked, and chipped teeth, not just discolored ones.
The first step of getting veneers is measuring your teeth. Most patients decide to get veneers for their front teeth only since these are the ones that show when we smile. The measurements will be sent to a lab because veneers are made specific to each patient’s teeth.
You’ll need to come back on another day, so we can apply the veneers. This will include having to remove a small portion of your teeth’s front surfaces. Once the veneers are properly attached, we’ll ask you to bite so we can check for any irregularities. We can tweak your veneers, so they don’t affect your bite, and you can feel comfortable wearing them. You’ll get used to having them within a couple of hours or days.
Dental bonding is the use of composite resin to fix damaged teeth. Composite resin can be shaped however we want. We can use it to fix the cracked, chipped, and damaged teeth. Bonding can also be used to fill gaps between teeth.
Dental crowns are cosmetic and protective. Veneers are purely cosmetic. This means that they won’t protect your teeth or provide any other benefit. Dental crowns, on the other hand, are solid and durable. A crown will cover the entire tooth rather than just its front surface.
